Why is there a tag from another company in this shirt?
Products start as blanks that are purchased by me to then turn into hand-dyed pieces. Your item will likely have a tag in it from another company/brand. Although my BFA in fashion qualifies me to create my own blanks, I’m simply not at a place in my business to do that. It is common practice among the dyeing community to use blanks that are purchased like an artist uses a blank canvas. I put a huge amount of effort into sampling blanks and offering high quality items that dye really nicely (cheap blanks don’t usually dye nicely).

Let’s talk “reclaimed, recycled, re-dyed”
There’s something really thrilling and inspiring about finding the perfect blank at a thrift store. I love “saving” these items and giving them a new life. If an item is thrifted, it will always say “reclaimed, recycled, re-dyed” in the description. Are these pieces less expensive because they’re thrifted? Usually not. The truth is that thrifted items in good condition or name brands are often times the same price, if not more, than new wholesale blanks. I try to spread my pricing so that styles are similarly priced across the board. Sometimes thrifted pieces are more work to ensure they are in perfect, dyeing condition.

Will my tie dye bleed in the wash?
I make the best effort to wash items until no more dye is released. Every item gets a final wash in a hypoallergenic laundry soap and eco friendly fabric softener. In this final wash I throw in a white hand towel to see that no more dye is being released. Your items should not bleed and most items can be washed normally according to their tag. However, I recommend washing with dark colors still, as even if it doesn’t release dye, washing whites with highly colored items can cause dinginess to your white laundry.
Additives-
There’s no question that the vibrancy and endurance of professional tie dye is owed to a few trade secrets. There are many different techniques that can be used to create professional level dyes, and many of them include using additives. Most of these are naturally occurring elements or products that are used frequently in our lives already in skincare products or food products. If you have any concerns about specific techniques or additives please reach out to me.
